Cowles Mountain

~3 to 4.5 miles | Moderate

The highest point in the city of San Diego with 1,593-foot summit. As one of the most popular trails in the area it provides a beautiful 360 degree view of downtown, Mexico and north San Diego county. It is located within the beautiful 7,000 acre Mission Trails Regional Park. There is a good spot to get a feel for the plants and wildlife of the region, where birds, rabbits, and snakes are regularly spotted. There are multiple trails to the peak, which vary in distance and difficulty. Our guide will tell you about each trail and let you choose your route to the summit.

This trail is great year around and offers great views anytime, especially for sunrise and sunset. During the summer, it can be very hot in the afternoon, and during the spring it is a great place to see the wildflower blooms.
